Tottenham Hotspur will conclude its trip to Australia with a match versus Atlético Madrid at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. In this preview you can find the line-ups, a free live-stream link and betting tips for the last match of both teams in the International Champions Cup 2016.
Tottenham Hotspur’s new signings getting play time to adapt
For Tottenham Hotspur it is their second match in the ICC 2016, after going down with 2-1 against Italian champions Juventus. In this match both Juve and the Spurs didn’t field any of their international players who were involved in Euro 2016.
England players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Kyle Wlker and Danny Rose all stayed home, or still enjoy their holidays.
Tottenham Hotspur coach Mauro Pochettino did use the match to field some of his newly signed players. Vincent Janssen, top goalscorer in the Netherlands last season who was signed from AZ, started the match. Also Victor Wanyama, who came from Southampton, was a starter for Tottenham Hotspur against Juventus.
The rest of Tottenham’s team consisted mostly of bench players such as second goalkeeper Michel Vorm and defender Kieran Trippier. The only players available that were regular starters for the Spurs last season are Nacer Chadli, Hueng-Min Son and Erik Lamela. Lamela managed to get on the score sheet as he came on as a substitute.
For the match versus Atlético Madrid we can expect a similar scenario as in the Juve match. Tottenham Hotspur’s starting XI will consist of its new signings including Lamela, Son and Chadli. The rest of the team will consist of names we won’t be seeing very often as soon as the regular season starts.
Diego Simeone as motivated as ever at start of another season with Atlético Madrid
For Atlético Madrid it will be its first match in the International Champions Cup 2016. As the start of the new season is coming nearer, more and more players return from their holiday as the squads return to full strength. Because Diego Simeone’s men travelled to Australia only recent, chances will be there he has a full squad at his disposal.
Atlético Madrid is expected to be able to showcase their new signings Nicolás Gaitán and Šime Vrsaljko, despite being active during Euro 2016 for his country Croatia.
The signing of Gaitán can be considered as a surprise. The 16-time Argentinian international player was a hot target on the transfer market with several top clubs such as Manchester United also targetting the former Benfica player. In the end Atlético Madrid paid Benfica a rather low transfer fee of €25 million.
So far Diego Simeone hasn’t suffered from a the yearly exodus of players Atlético in general suffer from. For weeks the papers were filled with rumours regarding potential transfers of Godin, Saul and of course Griezmann, but to date all these guys are still Atletico players.
