Elaine Wynn, clearly stated in a court hearing that she had received the news regarding her ex-husband raping a hotel employee in 2005. Elaine Wynn is the ex-wife of the casino businessmen Steve Wynn. The counsel, however, stated that they were not aware of any such information related to the allegation of rape.
The civil case has dragged for years together. The latest revelation came in a special hearing of the civil case. The case involves Steve Wynn and the casino operating company as well as her. This is the 1st time that she testified anything against her ex-husband Steve Wynn.
Steve Wynn has denied all such allegations.
Elaine Wynn made it clear that no one else in the company knew about this information. She informed about this only to Kimmarie Sinatra. She made it pretty clear in court that even the board did not know about the information. At the time of the incident, she was a member of the board.
According to her statement, she informed only general counsel Ms Sinatra about the allegation which stated that Mr Wynn had raped a hotel employee. She also let her knew that according to the allegation the incident had happened in 2005. According to the counsel of the company, this incident did not affect the company. Therefore, there was no need for concern. According to the counsel, she would personally handle it. The counsel further mentioned that the allegations will see it ends.
Elaine Wynn stated that she has been a victim of inquiring more into the matter. As a result, she was not re-nominated to the board of directors in 2015. This was directly due to her inquiries on the conduct of the company pertaining to this matter.
The special hearings were especially necessitated to clear the fact that Ms Elaine had reported the matter to the counsel. The trial is to begin in April. Judge Elizabeth Gonzelez stated that the trial in April will discuss the settlement offer. Also, the trial will look into the matter of 2 executives of the company indulging in illegal gambling activities.
Ever since the allegations came to light, Steve Wynn has resigned from the position of Chairman and CEO of the company. The allegations were first disclosed by Wall Street Journal. According to the newspaper, this is not an isolated case, there are several victims who have come forward with charges of sexual assault. According to the report, one such charge even led to a settlement of $7.5 million in 2005. It concerned a Manicurist working with the company. There were news reports about other allegations. According to reports, these reached a settlement as well.
Steve Wynn has denied all such allegations and news reports. He has claimed that Elaine Wynn is the one who is spreading such rumours. On the other hand, the company Wynn Resorts has created a committee to investigate the matter. The committee will go as per the internal policies and procedures.
In further developments, the Attorneys of the resort, have made it clear that there are allegations of sexual misconduct against Steve Wynn dating back to 2005. The attorney accepted that a settlement was reached. The only thing on which they differed was Elaine Wynn did not report the information. According to them, she is just bringing it out currently to gain an advantage in her current divorce proceedings.
According to an Attorney who represents Wynn Resorts, they completely dispute the statement by Ms Wynn that she had reported the matter as a governance issue. Ms Sinatra also denied the fact that Ms Elaine has ever told her about allegations of rape against Mr Steve Wynn.
Ms Sinatra added that Ms Elaine had categorically stated that she doesn’t mind driving the stock price down to zero in her attempt to destroy Steve Wynn. She had just passively mentioned a settlement and no further details were part of the conversation.
Elaine Wynn is the founder of Wynn Resorts and owns 9.5 million shares in the company. On the other hand, Steve Wynn has stated clearly that he has sold all shares in the company.
The majority of the lawsuit was settled recently where Wynn Resorts agreed to pay $2.4 billion to a Tokyo Based company by end of March.
