The biggest jackpot’s winner in history of the North America- $758.7m (£590m) – went forward to collect the prize. Mavis Wanczyk, who is a 53-year-old mother to two kids, bought her ticket at a local petrol station. Usually, the chances of jackpot winning are just one in 292.2 million.
The lucky numbers for the winner were 6, 7, 16, 23, 26 and 4. Wanczyk told the reporters that she had quit her job after confirming her victory. Massachusetts State Lottery also stated that the ticket in Wednesday night’s draw were validated.
Wanczyk informed journalists that she had decided on the lucky numbers which were based on her relatives’ birthdays. She also added that the first thing she would like to do was relax.
Of her 32-year-old job at the medical centre, the lucky winner said that she had already called and informed them that she was not going back to work. On a lighter note, she said that she was planning to hide in her bed.
When asked whether she planned to get herself something nice, say, a brand new car, Wanczyk claimed that she had already acquired a new car which was less than one year old and now she planned to pay off the arrears.
A lottery official stated that Wanczyk was the prototypical resident of Massachusetts. He added up that she seemed like a hardworking citizen who was clearly excited.
The owner of Pride Petrol Station, Bob Bolbuc, said that the $50,000 prize which was awarded to a business that sold the winning numbers would be donated for charity purposes.
The jackpot pay-out can either be made in a lump sum or yearly instalments which would take 29 years. Its estimation is approximately $443m after taxes. The greatest ever US Powerball jackpot was $1.6bn jackpot although it was shared among the ticket holders. This was back in January 2016.
Let’s hope that Wanczyk will use her lottery winnings in a better why than UK’s Pete Kyle, who blew his lottery jackpot within three years time!
The chairman of Powerball Product Group Charlie McIntyre stated that six of the other tickets won $2m each and that thirty-four other ticket holders all over the country scooped $1m.
Lottery officials of Massachusetts stated that the jackpot tickets were originally sold at a store in Watertown, but later on the location was corrected. How this error was made is still not clear.
