The news about Louis van Gaal’s sacking from his club Manchester United this afternoon was officially confirmed when the American stock exchange opened. The speculations about a potential departure only increased over the last weeks and now it is official that after two seasons the Dutch coach will be replaced by Jose Mourinho, who was send away by Chelsea earlier this season.
Despite winning the FA Cup last Saturday, which was the first trophy for Manchester United after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the board of the club have decided against a longer stay of Louis van Gaal. Missing out on Champions League football in the coming season, and the very unpopular play-style the Dutchman introduced, are the main reasons behind the decision to let go of van Gaal.
With Jose Mourinho comes Jorge Mendes
Another big fear that was spread among the Manchester United board was the inability to sign real top players. In the past years the Mancunians always failed to get hold of the players they were eyeing such as Thomas Muller, Sergio Ramos or Cristiano Ronaldo. The fact that the one top player the club did actually sign, Angel Di Maria, completely failed under van Gaal also didn’t help.
Bringing in Jose Mourinho also means Manchester United will have direct access to the player base of super agent Jorge Mendes, who is considered to be one of the most influential people in modern day football.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic first player to join Jose Mourinho at Manchester United
The first present Jorge Mendes already delivered is out of contract Swedish super striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Almost simultaneously with the news of Jose Mourinho joining Manchester United, the news broke that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will join forces with his former coach.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic joins United from Paris St. Germain where he ran out of his contract. In a tweet he described his years with the French champions as following: I came like a king I left as a legend.
