Barcelona is only two matches away from an invincible season. One of them will be on Sunday evening against sixteenth placed Levante, who not only go into the game as the natural underdogs but also have nothing to play for now that they are officially out of the drop zone.
Ernesto Valverde’s side, on the other hand, are fresh from a 5-1 midweek defeat of Villareal and would like to finish the season on a high note with nothing remaining to save energy for.
PREDICTION AND TIPS
Levante has faced Barcelona 21 times across all competitions, and are yet to manage a win against the Catalans. The gap between the two sides looks as wide as ever, and nothing seems to stop the champions from adding to their impressive record this Sunday. According to bookie Betfair, Barcelona are 4/11 to win the match and an almost impossible 15/2 to lose. A share of the spoils has been set at 9/2, in what would be the first draw of the fixture across all competitions since 2011.
Albeit not really money-spinning for a punter, nothing, besides a win for the visitors, is really worth holding your breath for.
No prizes for guessing who tops this market, with Lionel Messi – the division’s highest scorer – expected to feature in the match. He has been quoted at a befitting 2/5 to find the back of the net and 21/10 to score the first goal. Luis Suarez to break the deadlock has been priced at 11/4, and to score anytime at a worth-taking-the-risk-for 13/8. Paco alcacer, who would be lucky to be in the starting XI ahead of Suarez, follows closely with odds of 11/8 to find the back of the net ahead of Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele who both scored in the match against Villareal.
OVER/UNDER 2.5 MATCH GOALS
Since their 2-0 win over Athletic Club back in March, Barcelona hasn’t featured in a match that has ended in a scoreline of fewer than three goals. Valverde’s men are expected to dictate the goal market tonight, and Levante doesn’t seem to have the mettle to prevent a few goals going in. Betfair have quoted the Over 2.5 goals prospect at 2/5 while pricing the improbable opposite at 15/8.
BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
Barcelona has truly been unstoppable in front of goal this season, but their back four haven’t been doing much to add to their attacker’s heroics. They have surprisingly not kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight La Liga matches, five of which they have won. Levante, on the other hand, has scored in nine of their last ten matches, netting twice or more in each of their last three.
Barcelona is certainly a class apart from the rest of Levante’s recent opponents, but home team advantage may prove key to how this market unfolds tonight
