Ajax v Man Utd: tips for Peter Bosz from former Man Utd coach Louis van Gaal – Europa League Final Predictions.
It is a strange thought that one of you employers is supplying your next opponent of tactical tips. But, for Man Utd things never seem to be strange enough.
Louis van Gaal is still on the Man Utd payroll, officially he will be paid by the Mancunians until June 30th, after being booted out twelve months ago. Straight after their FA Cup victory the Dutch coach was informed about his sacking. This came as a huge shock to the former Ajax coach. He thought that landing the Reds Devils a trophy would keep him in his seat as Manchester coach.
The truth was that Man Utd had already reached an agreement with Jose Mourinho months before the Mancunians were even near the FA Cup final. A stab in the back for Louis van Gaal, who can be held partly responsible for Jose Mourinho’s career as a coach.
On a yearly meeting of the Dutch association of professional coaches, Louis van Gaal was pictured in deep discussions with Ajax boss Peter Bosz. Obviously the topic of these intense talks was the upcoming final of the Europa League in Sweden this coming Wednesday. In an interview with Peter Bosz on Dutch television he admitted he asked Louis van Gaal about his thoughts on the match versus Manchester United.
Not just because he was their previous coach, but in particular because Louis van Gaal is considered to be Jose Mourinho’s mentor and tactical tutor. The Portuguese coach started his career at Barcelona where he was one of van Gaal’s assistants.
Contract extension Jose Mourinho on the line
Somewhere in the beginning of last year Jose Mourinho signed a four year contract with Manchester United. It took only several months for the Red Devils to consider offering him an extension on his deal, as it seemed early on in the season the Mancunians were going to be a top 4 finisher this season.
Now, with a rather embarrassing 6th place finish in the Premier League 2016/2017, the mood of the Manchester United board has changed. A Europa League victory currently is the only possible way for the Portuguese to possibly get a new and improved offer. To qualify for the Champions League and enter the big ranks of European football only a Europa League victory will do.
Mourinho and Bosz speak out before Europa League Final
An interview with Jose Mourinho in the build up towards the match versus Ajax coming Wednesday. He seemingly uninterested answers questions of the international press. Previously the Manchester United coach had already slammed the principle of Champions League teams entering the Europa League. When you’re knocked out, you should not be handed a second chance.
Understandable, especially for the older generation who are used to traditional European tournaments. For example, only domestic league winners were allowed in the Europa Cup I. There were no group stages, but a full knock-out set up was in place.
One thing Mourinho doesn’t mention though, which is equally unfair, is the fact that a Europa League winner enters the Champions League. Something that can make or break his first horrible season at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Peter Bosz talks about his team, how they prepare and his tactics for the match versus Manchester United.
